The Office of Community Engagement optimizes the School of Public Health’s approach to civic and community engagement by facilitating relationships between SPH, community leaders, and interested partners across the university. We base our approach in mutually beneficial, reciprocal, and sustainable relationships with the local community and seek to maximize existing efforts at Brown in order to positively impact the health of Rhode Islanders and beyond. We provide planning and guidance for community engagement and work with community partners to identify issues most important in advancing the well-being of the community.
We connect and convene people, link folks to resources, offer consultation and advice, and communicate opportunities to engage.
We focus on:
-
Buildingrelationships with local organizations and individuals
-
Cultivatingcommunity-engaged experiential learning opportunities for students
-
Supportingcommunity-engaged research
-
Promotingequity and consistency through processes and policies across the school, enhancing infrastructure to support community engagement
