About Community-Engaged MPH Practicums
Community-Engaged MPH Practicums are available as the result of ongoing collaboration between the School of Public Health and local community-based organizations that advance health in Rhode Island. These collaborations match student skill, interest, and passion to community-identified projects and provide students with robust applied public health learning experiences. CE-Practicums are identified with long-term partnership in mind. We seek to connect students into projects in the long term, so that students may continuously contribute to community-identified goals and build upon previous student work in iterative ways.
CE-Practicums focus on public health needs and the social determinants of health. They especially seek to support historically marginalized or underserved populations. Projects originate from community organizations, and students onboard into the organization’s existing systems to collaborate (whether as an intern or as a volunteer).
Stipend:
Funding is available for full 145+ hour MPH Practicums, ranging up to $5,000 for the summer based on the priority criteria and availability of funding. International students are encouraged to check with OISSS about your eligibility to receive funding and work on projects off campus. Funded students are required to participate in the supportive workshops and cohort experience provided by the Office of Community Engagement.
